Bouncy Blow-Dry and Davines 'Your Hair Assistant' Products at Amaryllis Salon

I was recently invited by the lovely ladies, Rebecca and Tiffany at Amaryllis to try out their new range of 'Your Hair Assistant' products by Davines with a bouncy blow dry at their gorgeous salon in Cardiff.

The Cardiff City Centre salon has been open for a couple of years now and between them the co-owners have over 20 years experience in hair colour and creativity, both working for a large well known salon brand for several years prior to taking the plunge and opening their own business. And good on them I say! They pride themselves on being an eco-friendly salon, providing a high standard of service and advice and I have to say I'm very much in agreement with that! :)

For someone who has possessed pretty much the same long hair style since I was 12 (if you overlook the short 'Jennifer Aniston' cut I had when I was 22 - but we don't talk about that now!!) I've never been one to get into the whole 'getting a blow-dry' thang.....until now!!!

I have missed out for all these years! But now, I've officially got the blow-dry bug!

On arrival at the salon I was greeted by Rebecca and loved the whole 'vibe' as soon as I set foot in the place.  The decor is gorgeous, everyone is really friendly and it's not snooty in the slightest but it still has that 'professionalism' that you're looking for in a good salon.

Amaryllis are the only salon in Wales to stock Davines products, an Italian haircare brand who are committed to eco-friendliness and sustainability and who do not test on animals.

The Davines 'Your Hair Assistant' range has been created with blow-drying in mind and can be used both in the salon and also at home.  Angelo Seminara (Artistic Director at Davines and does hair for lots of the Hollywood celebs!) has been heavily involved in designing the range and each product aims to create 'perfect' blow-dried locks at the salon with long-lasting results.

Rebecca started my blow-dry experience by washing my hair with the 'Prep Shampoo', she did this twice to get rid of any product residue and then followed it up with the Prep Rich Balm, massaging this in and then leaving it for five or so minutes to sink in and nourish my hair.  Such a relaxing experience and the smell.....oh the smell! It's a sophisticated scent of jasmine and mint and I can liken it in some ways to my favourite Byredo scent 'Blanche'. Such a beautiful smell that lingers on the hair  for ages :)

Back at the chair, with an elegantly prepared coffee (super impressed! it's the little things ladies!) Rebecca ran through what products she was going to use on my hair to create the perfect blow-dry.

First, she used the Blow-dry Primer, a modifying tonic that has an anti-humidity effect and reduces blow drying time.  It also acts in a similar way to a primer for your make up, helping the style to last longer.  At this point my eyes lit up!  For someone who's hair frizzes frequently in humidity and has a tendency to drop a style faster than you can even say 'style' -  you can imagine how excited I was about this product!

Rebecca tentatively blow-dried my hair and I sat their mesmerised at the bouncy curls being created.  I've never seen my hair looking so fantastic! I think at one point I did tell her that I felt like Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (or whatever she's calling herself these days!!!) and I wasn't lying! My hair had so much volume, texture and bounce. I think I was actually a little bit in love with it!

Once complete, she used the Volume Creator Brush on the lengths of my hair with the Volume Creator Texturising Powder.  Va va voom!

Finally to seal the style a quick mist of the Perfecting Hairspray was used.  This is a medium hold hair spray that has an invisible effect and doesn't leave your hair with that nasty 'crispy' texture, in fact, it's quite the opposite and holds the style but allows movement.  This is an important factor for me when it comes to hairspray.

If I look a bit 'smug bitch' in these photos....that will be because I actually felt it!! haha!  My hair felt, looked and smelt fantastic.  The curls felt so smooth and soft and the volume created felt so 'natural' to the touch.

After leaving the salon (sadly - I could have sat there chatting to Rebecca all day!) I drove to London and got caught in the rain several times throughout the day.  I am pleased to report though that my hair remained looking fantastic despite this and even looked great the following day! Talk about putting products to the test hey?!

Amaryllis kindly gave me some of the Volume Creator Powder and the Volume Creator Brush to try at home and after being so impressed with the Prep Shampoo and Prep Rich Balm I purchased some for myself.

I'm never going to be able to recreate the beautiful blow-dry Rebecca gave me at home (I'll be making another appointment soon for that!) but I can report that when used at home the Davines 'Your Hair Assistant' products are fabulous for creating smooth, healthy, nourished hair that smells divine! I've used mine a couple of times this week and I love the results the shampoo and conditioner give.

The Volume Creator Powder and Brush are great for brushing into the lengths of your hair to give texture (and used sparingly I've also found it great for creating volume at the root of the hair and banishing greasiness!) It's easy to use and very effective.

So...to conclude.

If you live in Cardiff or near Cardiff and fancy a extra special blow-dry experience I can strongly recommend giving a Amaryllis Salon a go.   Rebecca and Tiffany have created a high quality salon with a relaxed and friendly vibe focusing on great service, gorgeous products and a high level of knowledge and expertise.  Or if you just fancy grabbing some of the Davines range pop in and have a browse! (guarantee you'll want to book a blow-dry though!)

For more info take a look at their website , Twitter, Facebook or Instagram and let me know if you book in :)

If you don't live in Cardiff but love the sound of these products I've done a bit of research and they are stocked online quite extensively. A little bit on the pricey side but in this case I'd say definitely worth it and this is from the person who doesn't normally believe in spending a lot on my hair!

A wonderful experience, I can't thank Rebecca and Tiffany enough for the opportunity and introducing me to the Davines range.  I'm interested to try more products now so if anyone has an recommendations I'm all ears!

Lis x
